Our program is based on the most current methods of exotic animal care developed by veterinary professionals.

Learning Objectives:
- Understand the importance of proper husbandry, nutrition and preventative care for exotic species
- Acknowledge common emergent diseases and injuries in exotic species in captivity
- Recognize considerations and safe techniques when working with diseased and/or injured exotic species
- Gain comfortability with the capture, restraint and transport of diseased and/or injured exotic species
- Comprehend triage practices and assessment of emergencies for life-threatening implications
- Learn what vitals are appropriate to obtain for different species and how to recognize abnormalities
- Providing emergency first aid and treatments to exotic species in and out of the veterinary clinic setting
- Creating emergency first aid kits for out-of-the-veterinary clinic treatment of exotic species
- Learn practices for medication and treatment administration for exotic species
First aid supplies such as pet first aid kits, respiration barrier masks, etc are available to purchase with your registration. Visit our online store for a list of items. Retail items are mailed directly to you at the shipping address provided in checkout. Registrations received after the preregistration period (3 business days immediately prior to a class) are subject to a $5 late fee. Although emergency first aid can improve the outcome of an animal that is experiencing a medical emergency, our company and our instructors will recommend that owners/caregivers seek veterinary care in all instances.

About the Instructor
Alana Frum RVTg
Alana Frum is a credentialed veterinary technologist practicing in Maryland. She has a background in exotic and aquatic veterinary medicine, spending three years in avian and exotic specialty practice before transitioning to her current role at the National Aquarium in Baltimore, MD. Outside of her full-time job, she also undertakes contract work at a biomedical research facility as well as teaching veterinary classes at a local community college. She obtained her veterinary technology degrees from Penn Foster and St. Petersburg College, and is furthering her education with veterinary graduate studies through the University of Missouri’s College of Veterinary Medicine. Her passions include everything herptile as well as spreading knowledge and awareness of exotic and aquatic veterinary medicine.

Continuing Education Credits for Veterinary Technicians
If you are a veterinary technician and want to receive RACE approved CE credit for completing this program we encourage you to create your free RACEtrack account with AAVSB. This site will sync to RACEtrack, the AAVSB’s CE tracking system, and provide a seamless connection between CE providers, licensees, and regulators. You will be able to access all of your CEU in one location and submit them to your state board.
